In these days to remember the launch of Sputnik 1 50 years ago. Sputnik shocked people outside the former USSR. Sputnik 1 and a few weeks later Sputnik 2 with the dog Laika on board proofed the ability of the former USSR to bring a bomb to any place on earth that western technology could not stop. In these days western leaders realized that it was necessary to stimulate creativity to compete with the USSR. Many centers were established to train in creativity and to stimulate innovations.
The race to the moon was started to stimulate all resources to catch up with the USSR and gain a better position in space.
